The Art Of Getting Messy - 5 Ways To Step Into Your Vision

A few months ago, I decided to start a Youtube channel for two reasons. The first being that I could connect it with my podcast so that I would be able to reach more people. Secondly, I am pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I am sitting and talking on camera. For me, this is a bit of a step being on camera tends to feel uncomfortable for me. Last year, it was starting a podcast and feeling more confident about getting my words out there.

We all have great ideas and visions of what we would like to have in our lives.

If your vision scares you, take one small thing that aligns with it and start living it.

For me, speaking was something that made me nervous. I had such a hard time getting my words out. Starting a podcast was that big way of getting my words out there. I knew that I had so much I wanted to get out into the world. I knew that I wanted to make an impact for others, but I was keeping myself small by not getting my words out there. Now, I have this podcast and Youtube, and the biggest thing that helps me to stay inspired and push into them more is allowing myself to be messy.

We all become experts in our current life. We all have strengths in those tasks we follow day to day. Often times, it is something new that stops people from jumping into their vision because of the discomfort of something they have not grown their skills in.

Let me tell you, we ALL start somewhere.

We all have a ground zero that we grow from. So many times, we want to do something perfect the first time we do it, but that usually is not the case. Don’t get me wrong, some people are naturally great at everything, but every new thing usually will have lessons that mold us into the expert in our vision. In the example of starting my podcast and even my Youtube channel, I had two options—I could do it messy and put it out into the world, or I could record over and over and over again until I had my words how I wanted them. The latter taking me longer to get my words into the world and impact others. Here’s the thing, there is always someone who needs to hear what you long to put out into the world, and whether it is messy or perfected, they will still hear your words. Your work and your words are powerful to those who need it the most. One of the biggest blessings is the impact we gift to others that could change or improve their lives. What is a goal you have been wanting to put into action, but you pause and stop yourself? You have been looking around at all the other people who already have this similar goal and you feel like maybe you are not going to do it as good as them. You consider the time it might take. You worry you might fail. You worry it will be too hard.

Ask yourself, what has stopped you in the past and are you ready to start now?

Would you be ready to take even one small step towards that goal?

Write down on a scale of 0-10 how ready you are to take a step into your vision. Write down what has

been stopping you from taking that step already.

When you decide to take that step, be open to doing it messy. Get it out there.

Here's a few tips for moving out of your comfort zone and into your vision:

Recognize Your Vision

One of the most important things to stepping into your vision is KNOWING your vision. Am I right? We all have a dream of things we would like to see in our lives and things we would like to do in our lives. When you get clear on the biggest ones, you begin to form that vision. What is your vision? That thing that just lights you up and brings the warm fuzzies out. Your vision can be anything, absolutely anything. Once you begin to put that into words, you begin to have a clearer picture of what it really is that you truly desire. And let me tell you, it is totally ok if your vision changes over time. My vision for being a nurse started as one thing and has completely morphed in a new direction. We all have seasons in our lives that shape us and transform us into our bigger and better self if we allow them to. Get clear on your vision.

Get Curious About Resistance

Start to ask yourself what has been stopping you from stepping into your vision. Is it fear? That fear and discomfort can often times be your guiding light. The things that scare you most will also push you the furthest. For me, I often have this throat choking sensation when I get fearful about something new. I remember it when I first moved to Colorado by myself. I remember it the first day of nursing and taking care of patients on my own. I remember it when I left my first nursing job and again when I left my last nursing job. I remember it when I started my podcast.

What is it that you are fearing from living your vision?

When you think of your vision, what responses do you hear in your head?

What responses do you feel in your body?

What emotions come up?

Is your resistance coming from a place of not doing something that you perceive to be the right way? You might have a bit of perfectionism holding you back, my friend, and you need to get a little into the discomfort of being a newbie. Ask yourself, what is it that you are worried you will do wrong? What is it that you feel can only be done the exact correct way? There are some lessons waiting for you, and they will grow you into the person you see in your vision. You can embrace that messy feeling, or you can run from it. You can put off the vision to become a perfectionist at it or learn as you go. When I started nursing, I had 0 experience in healthcare other than the education through school. I was so freaked out that I would do everything wrong. Which is pretty scary when people’s health, wellbeing, and lives are in your care. I still did it anyways, I knew that I had a vision for my why of becoming a nurse and I was willing to start from square 0 and become an amazing nurse. I know I definitely had some learning experiences, but all that learning pushed me into the skills I developed. The same with my podcast, I learned and learned from where I started. My podcast still gets messy, my speaking skills still could use work, but I let myself be ok with that because I know I have a vision for something much bigger. Let your vision be bigger than your need to do it perfectly.

Even Trees Start As Seeds

I’ll say it again, we all start from somewhere. Maybe you have a vision that you have begun to develop skills in, or maybe you are starting from ground zero. We all have things to learn and achieve as we grow into our vision. Every single plant around you started as a seed and grew into what it has become today. The same with each and every one of us. We started then we grew. You get to start from somewhere in your vision. You get to choose to be ok starting from square zero. I did. When I started online, I had computer tech skills and that was pretty much it. No social media experience over the previous five years- thus also no following. No understanding of e-mail lists or creating products for online. Nothing about what a high ticket sale was or what a low ticket sale was. I still did it. I still went for it. Your vision is greater than your limitations. Your skills that you learn along the way will boost you towards becoming that beautiful flower, tree, succulent, whatever you choose to be. You get to choose to water your vision and your skills every single day. Choose today to start.

Ask Questions – Of Yourself, Of Your Possibilities, Of The Universe

For quite a while, it did not occur to me to get out of the linear thinking of I need to do A to get to B or really even what linear thinking was. I never really thought of asking questions of possibility. There are so, so many possibilities to get from where you are to where you would like to go. The best way to invite those possibilities in is asking questions. Even if the answer doesn’t pop into your head, ask them and begin to scoot along your day. If the answer does pop in, write it down—no matter how unusual it may seem. Take note of it and go with it. It could open an unexpected door into where you have been wanting to go. When you begin to ask questions, your brain begins to look for the answers. Even if the answer is not there right away, your brain is working on it. The universe starts working with you to create what you ask. You get signs, you get messages, you get the answer falling right into your lap. The point is to start asking.

Ask yourself-

What can I do today that will push me towards my vision?

What can I do today that will create ______ in my life?

Get curious about your vision and the infinite possibilities of creating it.

Take The Small Step To Embody The Vision

I talk about this non-stop. EMBODY THE VISION! You may not be anywhere close to what that vision is, but you can take steps to start being a part of that vision. Even if these are small steps. These little steps guide you towards the big dream. What does it mean to embody the vision? It means you begin to construct things in your life that are similar to who you would be in your vision. If vision you wears stilettos, wear those strappy heels every day. If vision you wears leggings to teach yoga in, wear your leggings and practice yoga. If vision you eats gourmet food, find a spectacular recipe to cook. Vision me usually has someone cooking it for her, but we all start somewhere. When you begin to embody the vision, you begin to level up to the vision. You are sending signals that you are ready to step into that. You begin to learn lessons that will direct you towards that. You begin to draw in the resources that will assist you into your vision. You begin to create it. It can be a small step or a big step, the point is just take that step!

In all of it, remember to let it be messy, that it is ok to be messy. Let yourself grow into the vision you would like to live in. Get comfortable in the discomfort. Embrace the lessons. Acknowledge the wins. You will grow big once you start growing.

This is my first blog post and I did it messy 😊
